SURGERY
We are equipped to handle a wide variety of surgical procedures ranging from routine spays and neuters to more involved soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. We also monitor your pet for respiration, pulse oximetry, and blood pressure while they are under anesthesia.

Pain management is a part of our pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative anesthetic and medical protocol. All surgical patients including those undergoing routine procedures such as ovariohysterectomy or castration receive pain control medications.

At Lakewood Veterinary Hospital we are one of the first facilities in our area to offer the benefits of laser surgery for your pet. The Carbon Dioxide Laser produces an invisible beam of light which heats and vaporizes tissue almost instantaneously without any physical contact. This is done so precisely that normal surrounding tissues are hardly affected. Pet surgery is made gentler with laser surgery.

The laser does not tear, crush or bruise tissue due to the lack of physical contact. It is able to seal nerve endings and small blood vessels as it "cuts". The combined effects of laser surgery provide the following benefits:
Less pain
Less bleeding
Less swelling
Reduced risk of infection
Faster recovery

One of the most remarkable advantages of laser surgery is the ability to perform a Laser Declaw. This technique is much more humane than the traditional method of declawing, as it dramatically decreases the pain involved. Cats return to normal activity soon after the procedure.

PREVENTIVE MEDICINE
We provide your pet with annual wellness exams, vaccination exams, and office consultations to insure the health of your dog or cat.

To keep your senior pet healthy, be sure to take advantage or our Senior Pet Health Plan. This group of diagnostic tests is recommended annually for pets 7 years or older. Unfortunately, pets age much faster than humans, but serious health problems can often be prevented or delayed with early testing.

LABORATORY
Laboratory testing is an important part of preventive health care for your animal. We offer in-house laboratory testing which allows us to have the results available for you the same day, or outside laboratory testing, which is sent out for further studies, and the results are available within a couple of days.

PHARMACY
For our client's convenience, we have a dispensing pharmacy for many commonly used veterinary products. We also carry Science Diet Hill's Prescription Diets, Purina Prescription Diets, Royal Canin Prescription Diets and IVD Limited Diets for cats and dogs that have special nutritional needs.

DENTISTRY
Ultrasonic teeth cleaning and dental services provide your pet with good oral health. We also carry an assortment of dental home-care products.

Good dental care is as important for your pet as it is for you because:

Gum infections hurt! Signs of oral disease include bad breath, a change in eating or chewing habits, pawing at the face, lethargy and depression.

Gum and tooth disease lead to other problems! Bacteria buildup in your pet's mouth can cause endocarditis (heart valve infection) and kidney infections.

Bed breath means fewer kisses! If tartar is not removed from your pet's teeth, pockets of pus may appear along the gum line and further separate the tooth from the gum. This allows even more food and bacteria to accumulate and odor to develop.

Your pet is never too old for a dental care routine! You can reduce the risk of oral disease with a comprehensive dental examination, professional dental cleaning and home preventative care.

Diagnostic Imaging
Radiology:

We offer x-ray services in our hospital for injuries and illnesses that require advanced diagnostic imaging. All x-rays are then review by a board certified radiologist weekly.

Ultrasonography:

We are able to provide both abdominal and cardiac (heart) ultrasound imaging. Ultrasound is a non-invasive, painless technique for diagnosing conditions that may not appear on a conventional x-ray.

Videoscopy:

We offer Video Vetscope which is the latest high-tech diagnostic and treatment tool. It is a tiny color video camera connected to a tapered probe that the doctor uses to help examine ears for infection or blockages, pinpoint dental or throat conditions, perform surgeries, or identify rectal or genital urinary tract problems that might not otherwise be seen.
